Popular Post Çnote Posted Wednesday at 05:23 AM Popular Post Posted Wednesday at 05:23 AM This is going to be a @Capn_Jackson show, I'm all damning with faint praise as usual with something ROTT. This has been on Jackson's radar since being announced. I made a special trip across town to pick up a couple last weekend. To me, these are sopping wet even without humidity for a week; crooked burn, coned even with s.l.o.w. puffs. The 1st 3rd had a touch of salt caramel and creme, at about halfway they pick up a pleasant richness, the 3rd 3rd shows leather and wood, the nub really came together with some baking spice and custard. Big stretches are pretty bland and the interesting parts are muddled, but I'd say that's just needing rest and to come to my preferred humidity. There's certainly some pops of familiar flavors here, and virtually no pepper. Even all that being said, I'm not sure if I'll intentionally circle back on this one, at least not until they roll something smaller than 50rg. Once these hit disco tho, I'll probably buckle and get a box, if nothing else to pay lounge rent, the price is sharp and these show a fair bit of promise rott. Call it an 86 with a very high ceiling. 9
Capn_Jackson Posted yesterday at 12:47 PM Posted yesterday at 12:47 PM My Father Blue, Robusto Cold draw gives me a little pepper, as I’d expect in a Garcia cigar, and some coffee/hay. Light-up puff is a different story. No pepper, odd for a Pepin cigar. Hazelnut crème all the way. The finish has a tiny bit of spice on the end, just a little chili oil and not at all powerful. Going on, some dark cherry, a little lemongrass, and peanuts dipped in cocoa. Dark cocoa, not even faintly sweet at this point. Interesting combination of flavors here in the early going. @Çnote smoked his right before me, and asked to see my burn line. He said his had gotten wonky not long after the start, and immediately my burn starts to wave like a Wacky Wavy Inflatable Flailing Arm Man. I’m gonna blame Cody for that. Flavor is good, though, especially for how wet these seem to be. A little salted caramel biscuit is coming through now. After a stretch of mundane, the midpoint turns into a syrupy butterscotch liqueur, with salt still at the back. A little further and I’m getting a mouth full of honey-soaked nuts, some anise, with a coffee finish that is unfortunately short-lasting. Doesn’t linger on the tongue for very long between puffs. Going to last act, hazelnuts all over. Lots of sharp transition, though, between each puff. Honey on this one, molasses on the next. Back and forth between dark earthy and light floral. After some age, I think this could be a very enjoyable smoke. Right now, it’s making me think way too hard. Towards the end, getting all anise and leather, mild flicks of caramel and earth underneath. Strength has remained somewhat low the whole time, maybe medium, with a wonky burn but plentiful smoke output. Gets bitter toward the nub, unfortunately. I wouldn’t say I love this cigar, but it was very interesting, and I think there is upside with rest and lower humidity. I might try to get ten or so and lay them down for a couple of years. I have a load of My Father Bijou’s, Pepin JJ Series, and others that I’ve held onto for over five years, and they have reaped major benefits from that time down. I have no reason to believe these wouldn’t do the same. 2
