Viscera Posted June 26, 2025 Posted June 26, 2025 Hi, I’ve been smoking cigars for the last year and am wanting to dip into Cubans. So any suggestions for starting out, I typically like heavier cigars like tabernacle or Padrón. But am open to new types. 1
ha_banos Posted June 26, 2025 Posted June 26, 2025 Welcome. Where in our world are you? Grab some quarter boxes of whatevers available. Cuban cigars are quite different, so start again. Exploring while you can. The recent warnings of looming supply shock may be coming. So try your way through the limited catalogue and try the Fab5 five packs. Look forward to hearing your experience.
Viscera Posted June 27, 2025 Author Posted June 27, 2025 I’m in Ohio, I’m kind of trying to find some places to start but I hear you want to age most for a few years before smoking. I have a box of Monte #2 from October last year that I haven’t touched, but am looking forward to. Planning on trying one this fall to see.

I find that it wasn't the strength that drew me to those cigars, but the sheer amount of flavor they have. CCs are almost always milder than those, but they definitely can have the same level of flavor. I'm also a newbie, and I've found that the younger CCs I've been able to get have tasted great (Partagas Mille Fleur October 24 for example), and others (like some Montecristo Petit Edmundos) tasted harsh and unappealing. Don't be afraid to try just one from your boxes to see if they're great! I've really enjoyed the majority of the young boxes I have. Cheers and enjoy the journey!
Li Bai Posted June 27, 2025 Posted June 27, 2025 Welcome to FOH ! If I were you, I'd grab some Super Partagas or H. Upmann Majestics. They usually smoke well pretty young and although they're not the most complex CCs, they can help you figure things out before spending big bucks.

yuppie Posted June 29, 2025 Posted June 29, 2025 Welcome and get ready to take a ride! Cubans have so much to offer. I've been enjoying a variety of younger sticks that are only 1 year out from their box date and haven't been disappointed. QdO No.50s, Hoyo Epi 2s, H. Upmann Half Corona and Connoisseur No.1, Montecristo No.5 have all been really good smokes without half a decade of age on them. Because you mentioned Padron, I could see you liking Partagas, Montecristo, Bolivar and Cohiba quite a bit. Have fun exploring!
Connoisseur Kim Posted June 29, 2025 Posted June 29, 2025 Welcome to FOH!!!! I highly recommend you to try PSD4, Partagas Shorts, Monte #1, CCE, CORO, RASS if you want to try heavy CCs, but I also encourage you to try H. Upmann Connie A, LGC MdO #4, and more since the world of Habanos is vast, complex, and unique (e.g. Cuban twang).
