TX Duo Review - SBC Hyperion (2023 Torpedo)

This is a store exclusive for Small Batch cigar blended with Kyle Gellis at Titan de Bronce. I generally like all three of these names. 

I gave this a hard sniff out of the cello and got a blast of earthy manure. 1st puffs are cocoa and earth, this continues as the main theme all the way to the nub. The 1st third is overall pleasantly mild with cocoa nibs and freshly ground espresso, malty stout and lashes of cream. The 2nd third picks up citrus and toast, builds in intensity neatly with a touch of clove joining the malt and cocoa. Getting to the band, this ticks way up to full throttle getting a touch bitter and fighting back slightly with earth and leather, keeping the theme of cocoa but losing everything else. Another year or so and I think this part will mellow out. I spent most of the cigar looking at my previous reviews of Bolivar, if that gives you any ideas. 

91 and if I weren't on a hard buying freeze I'd pick up another couple bundles.

After a Dickemann cut (ouch!) a very open draw, but not too open. Not a wind tunnel. Cold draw has mostly coffee, a little earth and some bright pepper. Light-up puff is sweet toasted tobacco, with faint powdered sugar and slightly bitter nuts.

Going on, mostly some medium roast coffee with splashes of milky sweetness. Ash was a little flaky, and falls off whenever it wants to (cheeky kid!) but burn seems okay. There is a tangy heat, reminding me of blended peppercorns. Not an offensive spice, but the blend would work far better for me personally without that. Some sweet angel food cake hiding underneath that, too. The pepper does die down quickly, thankfully, exposing some creamy sweetness under the front of the tongue. Pretty mild going after that. A little cumin spice makes it presence known.

Second third gets more bready. A little ladyfingers dipped in caramel macchiato. Nothing overly deep, but damn good tobacco. The ash falls more than my 5-year-old daughter throwing a fit. Around the midpoint, there’s a change toward a refined smoke, indicative of much more age than I think is on this stick. Tasting some things I’ve only experienced on very aged Upmann and Sanchos. Good stuff here!

Last third is more of the same. Creamy. Coffee. More baking spices, nutmeg and cardamom in particular, more bread. Not much beyond that, and not much is needed. Damn fine tobacco flavor, mostly. Nothing complex, just good. Really enjoyed this!

Your pepper sensitivity is showing, I picked it up as more espresso. Both of us like the spices shown, you read cumin and I read clove. I know you were constantly retrohaling and I couldn't on this one much, alas. Somedays it just doesn't happen.

I neglected to mention the flaky ash, good catch. Knowing Andrew's & Kyle's style, some older tobacco was probably stuffed into this to mellow it out, they do like to make good stuff. Damning with faint praise for Titan tho.

This turned on me about the time of your last pic, about where the band would be. I think it was more due to moisture than blend for mine.

Is this the 1st time we both liked the cigar a lot? (Besides CC Lanceros, the CoLa and MdO#4 we certainly agreed were amazing.)
