Padrón A Hammer & A Dream Heading to Tobacconist of Greenwich Next Month

Tobacconist of Greenwich’s Rare Find Series will be getting a new addition—technically, two—by way of Padrón.

On June 11, the Connecticut-based retailer will host a launch dinner for the new Padrón A Hammer & A Dream, a new 6 x 54 toro that will use the Padrón Family Reserve band, the first time this size has been used for a Family Reserve cigar. As with most Padróns, it will be offered in both Natural and Maduro wrappers.

Each cigar has an MSRP of $59 and production is limited to 500 numbered boxes of 10 cigars per wrapper, a total of 1,000 boxes.

Jorge Padrón, the company’s president, will be in attendance at the launch dinner. A ticket to the dinner will cost $750 and includes seven cigars—one A Hammer & A Dream and three other rare cigars will come in a box—a five-course dinner and an open bar. Tobacconist of Greenwich has also acquired 150 bottles of a single barrel release from Old Elk Distillery for the event.

Despite the store’s physically small size, it is known for putting on some of the most extravagant events in the cigar industry. Michael Cafagno, owner of The Tobacconist of Greenwich, told halfwheel that this dinner will also feature an auction that includes a mixture of vintage Padróns as well as even prototypes of the A Hammer & A Dream cigar.

The name refers to Padrón’s little hammer. José Orlando Padrón (1926-2017) left Cuba in 1961, first heading to Spain before landing in America in 1962. A friend asked if he had any carpentry skills and then gave him a little hammer. After two years, he saved enough money to start Padrón Cigars, which began with one roller in Miami.

Tobacconist of Greenwich is taking pre-orders for the Padrón A Hammer & A Dream cigars.
