Popular Post SirVantes Posted April 18, 2025 Popular Post Posted April 18, 2025 As cigars have become a minority pastime, and no longer figure in the zeitgeist, I have come across fewer and fewer references to them in contemporary fiction. At best, a character is described as "favouring Cuban cigars" or there is a passing reference to a Montecristo or Cohiba being smoked. Imagine how impressed I was to find this passage in the latest novel by Michel Houellebecq - LCG MdO1! He has just gone up in my estimation. When was the last time a literary reference to cigars (besides old Kipling) impressed you? 6
Popular Post loose_axle Posted April 18, 2025 Popular Post Posted April 18, 2025 This passage from Brideshead Revisited has always tickled me (and also made me wish a thousand times over for a cabinet of 100 Partagas): 5
