hagzo Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 Hi all I read a post here a couple of months back over the effects of freezing cigars. I have run out of humidor space and was considering using my freezer for storage. Does anyone know A. any adverse effects? B. how long they can be frozen for?
rumrogue Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 I seem to recall an article? in Cigar Aficionado some time back. If I remember correctly, the short answer is......No! Don't do it. Freezer not good place for delicate, expensive Cubans. Hostile environment. Too dry & really slows up the ageing process. Invest a few bob in another humidor. :-(
Freefallguy Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 Ditto rum's post... one word, "freezer burn". OK, so that' s two words, but hopefully it made a point!
El Presidente Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 Tritto.....(an extension of ditto) One week is fine.....but long term storage will bleach wrappers (think of old chocolate) and destroy the cigar.
Tampa1257 Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 Very bad news for flavors and taste, and as for aging, fugitaboutit. Check out the Temp & rh controled wine cooler type cabinet humidor instead IMHO. Once all the essential oils are evaporated from the tobacco, all the taste, flavors and everything you ever enjoyed about a cigar is history. Tampa
hagzo Posted June 2, 2005 Author Posted June 2, 2005 Never thought of using a wine cabinet as a humidor Tampa. I take it the best models have manual RH adjustment? What are the pro's and con's of this compared to a humidor? It seems you get a lot more storage out a wine cab Cheers
