It’s owned and operated by Dennis Hopson, a Toledo native who was an NBA champion and Ohio State University all-time leading scorer before settling back in the Glass City as a college and high school coach and athletic director. “In 1991, I played in Chicago, and we won the NBA championship. That night after the championship is when I had my first cigar,” Mr. Hopson said, adding that the experience birthed his love for cigars. Cigar smoking can be associated with celebratory events. The same goes for limousines and party buses, but most come with a common restriction — no smoking. Havana & Rye offers patrons a sophisticated setting in which to enjoy cigars during their celebrations and travel. “Havana is cigars, and rye is bourbon,” he said of the name. “Cigars are a hot thing now. And [most] shuttle buses outside of this one don't allow smoking, so now you can take this and go to Detroit to go to a restaurant, birthday parties, and drink and smoke on the way down and don't have to worry about driving back.” The shuttle boasts wraparound leather seats, a 3000-watt surround-sound system, two flat-screen TV monitors, LED lighting for ambiance, and a wet bar for beverages and snacks. The service welcomes birthdays, proms, corporate events, concerts, sporting events, weddings, and more. Havana & Rye is set to showcase its amenities Saturday and Sunday at the Superbowl Bridal Show at the Premier banquet complex. 2 1
