El Presidente Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Ahhhh Melbourne Cup Day. The unofficial public holiday of Australia. The sacred day for all bogans of this wide brown land Melbounre Cup is one of the richest horse races in the world and an Aussie tradition. I am indeed catching up with a few mates for a Melbourne Cup lunch. For fellow Aussies....have a cracking day!!! What the Melbourne Cup likes to portray. The Reality 1 2
El Presidente Posted November 3, 2025 Author Posted November 3, 2025 2025 Melbounre Cup day today and I have a full deck of reprobates from 11:30 am This is the only day of the year that I place a bet and as usual we go overboard by betting on 50 races across Australia. Generally, we lose on the day. However there have been standout years of $20,000 wins! Those days are few and far between All the lads pile onto the deck, lunch is served, cigars lit, wine open, big screen on, sport bet acccounts on fire. If we have any horse racing betting legends among us...let us know your tips for today 👍
zacca Posted November 3, 2025 Posted November 3, 2025 First I became aware of this was this weeks sports bet comp but as I read up about it, it seems like this is a huge day for upside down land. Reminds me of Kentucky Derby (prim and proper) and Preakness (degenerate drunken partying). Hope all you Aussies enjoy the day and here’s to a win from Presage Nocturne! 1
Gubbins Posted November 3, 2025 Posted November 3, 2025 Enjoy. In the UK we have the same thing with the Grand National. Horse racing is pretty ingrained into our culture. Royal Ascot, Cheltenham, Aintree etc. Probably similar to how it is in Oz, it’s mainly an excuse for the lads and lasses to get dressed up and get as many beers and bottles down as one can afford. All in good sport though.

But 5/1 is too short for me in this type of race. They’be also flown Wayne Lordan all the way across to ride Goodie Two Shoes, but I can’t make out his chances much. And lastly, but of most interest to me, I’ve backed Absurde at 20/1. He’s shorter now but feels like there is some value at 16/1 plus. Formlines just read to me like he’s been laid out for this and his hurdle form is all class. And Willie Mullins can do no wrong at the moment.
Hoosh Posted November 3, 2025 Posted November 3, 2025 I certainly have nothing-from this week’s sports bet, I picked a horse (Smokin' Romans) that, as it turns out, happens to be nine years old and one that probably nobody’s placed any money on. Probably the best thing that horse has going for him is that he’s starting from the 12th spot. Keep your money far, far away! 😂
