Popular Post ayedfy Posted October 29, 2024 Popular Post Posted October 29, 2024 Montecristo Edmundo. Tubo, box code UPO FEB 22. Opening third: coffee time, rich espresso with quality creamy milk (think a piccolo latte). Some dark burnt-caramel sweetness in the same ballpark. Draw is exactly right. Body begins above medium but gradually falls to light. Aroma has a clear woody vanilla note that is otherwise not evident on the palate. Throughout this stage the sweetness lifts and drops, but the coffee remains steady. Middle third: an unexpected savoury note is introduced suggesting warm salted pork straight off the spit, and the body lifts back up to a healthy medium. The coffee is still there but now it is playing more of a support role, adding some earthy depth without taking the spotlight. There’s also an edge of lemon zest that balances out some of the heavier notes. Final third: another development in profile, with a clear fruit sweetness as the citrus changes from zest to a juicier character with passionfruit, as well as blueberries and white grapes. The coffee has all but disappeared, very distant now but still somewhat detectable. Body has remained a constant medium besides a couple of brief lulls in the opening third. The last one I had from this box was about 18 months ago, which was enjoyable albeit quite subtle. I was curious if age might unlock some of the flavour I was only glimpsing. It did. Everything I loved about the last one, but more complexity and more body this time around. Well done, eddy. 92/100 8
Lamboinee Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 Your review inspired me to revisit a box from 2018. Stellar! 4
