It's great to see Great Wall Cigars is committed to improve their products starting from solid grounds. It's also always interesting to see the integration of chemical analyses with sensory olfactory detectors and human evaluation. In fact, there are quite some flavor databases including tobacco compounds, but human sensory evaluation is always needed. The reason is in the challenge in predicting the complex interactions of countless molecules in a tobacco blend. As we say at Cigar Sense, "molecules dance". As no technology - as far as I can see today - can replace master blenders and human noses, at the moment there is a great momentum - for Cuban and other non Cuban cigars - to apply scientific sensory analysis to help companies invest where it's most worth to satisfy the end customer. We have seen that solid data can totally help master blenders tweak a blend combining art and reliable predictions.
