These are in my opinion one of the great, original Cuban cigars. There’s nothing else like it in the catalogue. When you get a really good one, they are hard to beat with anything.

It’s also perhaps the only cigar where I want the darkest, oiliest possible wrapper. That seems to me to bring out the dark chocolate fruitiness. For me pale wrapper VR can seem a bit bland.

This one was very good, not tippy-top. Mid bodied to slightly over, with that lovely exotic woodsmoke note. A dry cacao bite, and underlying exotic fruit. Like the fruitiness in African coffee. Slightly wonky burn required a few touch ups, and the centre was rolled a bit hard. But overall a very pleasant hour plus, with the rain hammering down on my shelter. Score a strong 1 on binary scale.
