Popular Post Çnote Posted February 26, 2024 Popular Post Posted February 26, 2024 So, thanks to FoH, I've made a great friend in @Capn_Jackson We have had many conversations about personal preferences in cigars, but had never smoked the same cigar and talked about what we're tasting so we have a better basis for recommending each other cigars. We've both had the recent opportunity to come across some interesting aged NC stock, so we've both smoked and reviewed. (I didn't realize Cap'n had reviewed this earlier this week for the weekly. You'll have to trust that I didn't read that before smoking and typing.) #1 Dunbarton Tobacco Trust Muestra de Saka Nacatamale 2017 (OG release). On paper, this should be an absolute treat, a Lonsdale kinda size personal reserve from probably the most tobacco driven blender in NC. 1st third - sweet creme w touch of cocoa 2nd third - still creme, but with leather and rich earth rather than sweet cocoa. Somewhere around halfway, the smoke picks up a much more intense richness Going into the 3rd, this shifts into a heavy unami plum sauce vibe, loses all the creme and picks up a peppery earth note. Getting into the nub zone, it's full on pepper blast & rocky earth. This mellows out a little into a pure toasted tobacco, but lots of intensity. Personally, this is probably a 8 for me, smooth and slightly sweet is what I'm looking for. Looking at Cap'n's review, we are barely talking about the same cigar, which is what I was hoping for with this project. 7 1
Popular Post Capn_Jackson Posted February 26, 2024 Popular Post Posted February 26, 2024 As @Çnote said, we could’ve been smoking two different cigars. For me, the pepper hit right up front, and didn’t let up much until the second third. It’s truly intriguing how different the experiences were, and I’m looking forward to continuing this with multiple NC’s and CC’s as well. Here’s the link to my review of the Nacatamale: A few pics of the gorgeous box: 5 1
