shrink Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 This is a cigar that has me on the fence. I have smoked about a third of an AUG04 box. The first few I found to be very mild, almost flavorless. The last couple seem to be coming around, but are medium bodied at best. All my other Montes are more strongly flavored. However, there is no question that the construction and tobacco is high quality, with a very clean bittersweet Monte signature. I like them in spite of being mild, and am hopeful that time will continue to bring improvement. The question is: are more recent issues stronger, or this just a matter of "luck of the draw"?

Bob, I havent smoked any '04 boxes, but the '05 box i have is just wonderful. Full flavored, spicy and creamy. The construction is perfect and the draw is right on. Mine are col claro and have a nice oily sheen. Smoked almost half my box and havent had an underfilled one. They all have a nice heft to them. Quickly becoming a go-to. I cant wait to see what a few years will do.
kab55 Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 I'm still waiting for my box from the first release to get old enough to try :-)

My recent '05s have been excellent. Very full flavored as well, and not an underfilled one in the bunch. Gonna have to buy anoher box to age. They must have done something to these, cause this is a different animal than the few I smoked on initial release.
