Hey Prez I heard they changed the blend on the Edmundo .

I have a box from early 04 that is almost finished and I enjoy them very much.

If there is a new blend with the newer box dates when did it start .

And how much of a taste difference is there between the blends.

I have noticed a slight difference between the first release ones and subsequent date codes, but isn't that always the case? Apart from that I haven't heard or experienced any difference in characteristics.

Anyway I'd be interested to hear Rob's reply to this one.

Good question Jim. I have smoked some singles from 04 and found this stick to be right up my alley. Its a nice size and produces lots of smoke. I just might have to pull the trigger on a box of these.

I have not heard. If they have changed the lend then it would have been just after the initial release and I have found them consistant for the past 2 years

I found the first releases to be insipid.

must say i liked them from day one and have not seen any great variation but have not seen any of the most recent releases - one to check out in havana.

The reason why i am asking this it is a new size from Montecristo and i think they might have changed the blend since it is new..

Also I have read about this multiple time's in the last month

I bought the original release. I found them to be very young and very muted. SO i decided to put them to rest. I smoked one last week and realized that they were coming into their own. I think a nother yr or so and they will be alot better.

Ive have a box of XLB FEB 05. Only had them 2 weeks maybe and decided to try one last night. WOW. I only have had one, but it was damn good. I dont know why it took this long for me to get some of the Edmundo.

Tons of coffee and milk. Very monte-like. Some subtle spice, perfect draw and construction with a very nice, healthy sheen. Got a bit harsh in the last inch, but that is to be expected for such a young'un. I think these have the potential to really blossom and become a classic smoke in 8-10 years.

Edmundo was a smoke that wasn't quite up my alley flavor-wise at initial realease. This past weekend I smoked a recent production Edmundo (APR '05 I believe) which was a gift, and I must say it did seem like there was some change in the blend.

Even for a young'n, it seemed to show more "Monte character" than the early examples I smoked.

And wow.. I am very impressed. They are really starting to become more complex.

I have read some people express the opinion that Habanos s.a. takes special care with the first release versions of a new cigar in order to assure positive word of mouth to the extent possible and that later versions of the same cigar may suffer by comparison.

This may be one of those bits of cigar bulletin board lore that, as my friend dragon so eloquently states, is "total bullsh*t".

I was a late comer to the Edmundo. When they first were released I recall folks posting they were mild a great morning cigar. Then I tried some singles and that was not at all my experience -- they showed a stoutness and clear coffee/bean flavors.

Over time I have had a few from different boxes, some great with the same profile and strength, despite being from different factories and time periods. And others have been so-so. I don't know what to make of that. It is almost like they have a different blend. Now it wouldn't be the first time in the history of cuba that they made due with what they had on hand. And it may be the so-so ones will come around and be good even great cigars, but I doubt they will show that same strong coffee/bean flavors. But who knows. It seems like the sleepers tend toward a sweetness the Edmundos with the strong coffee flavor lack. Am I alone in this observation?

All this being said, I REALLY like the Edmundos and think they are great cigars. We amy just have to wait a bit 'till come come around. Others are thunping a all cylinders from the get go.:-P

I've tried three to date. None of them did a thing for me. It might be that they are just young and have not even begun to reach their potential, but I didn't even taste any real potential. I'd much rather have a No. 2 or Especial No. 2 or even a No. 4 than the Edmundo.

I have to agree with you here. I was not impressed with them at first, but ones I have tried recently were quite good. The problem is, I don't know when the recent ones were made, as they were all gifted to me. I'm not even sure who they came from.
