My #2 cigar of 2023.

I had spent the prior month out of the country for work and hadn't been able to smoke at all. Once I got back to the US, I made every effort to squeeze in a cigar. I rarely smoke at night. After wrangling my two toddlers down for bed, I'm usually done for the day save for some convos with my wife, a little reading or work. But this was a special occasion. Dead and Company were playing Cornell as a part of their "final tour" and I was making up for lost time. It required a special cigar.

'Twas time to put on the live stream and to crack open this box (many thanks to our gracious host 🙏 ).  

I've never had an SLR DC. But, if they are remotely like this Mag 50, then I get why people rave about them. The construction, draw and burn were near perfect. It had the fruity, melon note, It had a caramelized nuttiness with some signature H Upmann breadiness. It was delicious and a solid 96/97 points. The show was killer and foreshadowed the great tour to come. All was right in the universe ✨ 🌍 🌙 

Here's to hoping that I still have one of these left when D&C play their "final show" 🥂

I agree with your review. When these are on they're great. I only have 18 of these left (UEB DIC-18) and wish I could get some more. I looked back in my records and have not smoked one in 2023 - I think I'll wait until New Years 2024!

Never appreciated how polarizing the Mag 50 is before hanging out on FOH. To be fair,  the fruit note is what makes these 95+ point cigars for me and it's a coin toss on whether I'll get it when I reach for one. Nevertheless, I still enjoy a Mag 50 without the fruit note. Others also find them bland. It's no BBF for sure, but I'm not struggling to get flavor from them. To each their own

Lit one up last night, same box code. Had waited a few months since delivery, was looking forward to it.

Bland AF, flavourless, wanted to switch to another cigar midway but decided to give this oldie the respect of finishing it. Some Upmann flavours crept back in the middle of the last third, but was too late. Will try another soon to give the box the benefit of a doubt.

That sucks. There's a non-trivial camp of folks who find smoking a Mag 50 akin to smoking hot air. Hope you're not in that camp and this was just a dud 🤞
