I haven’t had chance to post for some time, life and work seems to be getting in the way too often and too easily recently. A Nudies review seems like a perfect chance to get back into things though. These have been resting just less than 30 days and it has taken quite a bit of self-control not to light one up sooner. I was glad to have the excuse.

The temperatures here in Cairo have been absolutely cooking this week. I waited until the evening to light up. Despite it still being over 30 degrees, it was fairly pleasant and didn’t seem to affect the cigar negatively.

Initial thoughts:

One of the first things I noticed was a very toothy wrapper. Both visibly and to the touch, the wrapper felt slightly rough. Slightly rustic looking stick but I want a cigar that smokes well rather than just looks pretty. The cigar was very firm and felt very well packed. When compared to other canonazo’s and similar sized cigars in my humi, it was notably firmer and heavier. There is an interesting thread on the forum about cigar weights. While I wouldn’t want to go down that rabbit hole myself, it certainly makes you think about Cuban cigar construction. I straight cut the cigar and the draw wasn’t too loose or too tight. Good signs so far.

First third:

While I like the visual appearance of the closed foot, it made lighting slightly trickier than usual. More of an observation than a complaint. When things were up and running, initial draws were light bodied. Nice creamy texture to the smoke and very aromatic. Good smoke production. Some sweetness built throughout the first third. I would describe this as an aromatic/woody sweetness rather than honey/fruit/sugar sweet. The burn of the cigar was sharp throughout the first two thirds and didn’t require any touch ups or particular care.

Second Third:

The body built up to a solid medium. The sweetness and mellow nature of the smoke drifted in and out. Still excellent smoke production and very aromatic. I’m not great with particular flavour notes but cedar and rich tobacco coupled with mild leather came to mind as the strength built.

Final third:

Things became a bit more inconsistent here. The flavour and strength changed between mild and sweet to full bodied and rich from one minute to the next. Still very enjoyable and I enjoyed the build up throughout the smoke. Some draws brought some slight peppery bite. Considering they are still pretty fresh, it’s absolutely baking here and the first two thirds performed well, it can be forgiven.

Final thoughts:

A very enjoyable smoke. I don’t have strong opinions on NC vs Cuban cigars. If they’re good, I enjoy them. I think these will improve with a bit more down time and I’m looking forward to having my next in a few weeks. It was quite full bodied by the end and I felt as if I had smoked a big cigar. I still have some of the first released nudies lanceros in my stash. I think these are an improvement. I love the FoH cigar stand too! I paired this with a Coke Zero at first then a pint of Guinness. Both seemed to work well.

The way those photos were taken, it makes it seem like you are sitting amidst rows of giant columns on your expansive estate.

On second glance, those might just be the balusters on your balcony! 😆

Sadly it’s just the balusters of the balcony! It was pretty dark out so I needed to rest my phone on the table to prevent blur. They look far more artistic than I intended!
