ChangBang Posted September 3, 2023 Posted September 3, 2023 Smoked a cigar I got in Gran Canaria a few weeks ago. The cigar was 1 euro and after smoking - short filler. Don't have too much information on it as it's a cheap cigar and a small brand that I can't find much info on it. From a random site - It seems like while the Canary Islands do grow tobacco, they don't grow enough to have 100% Canary island cigars and are usually mixed with tobacco from other nations. 1 - Not a whole lot of evolution so just doing this one by 1/2s. Right off the bat, flavor is kind of a strong tobacco with a touch of harshness to it. Smoke texture is thick and adds kind of a creamy mouthfeel to it. It...actually isn't that bad. A straightforward tobacco taste is sometimes welcomed by me and kind of reminds me of a cigarillo but in a bigger form. Occasionally get some short filler tobacco in the mouth but that adds to my feeling about it being like a cigarillo - kinda like the cohiba short w/o the grassy-ness. 2 - No real change in the cigar but that's fine. Cigar stays cool and burn isn't too crazy. No additional off-notes moving through the cigar. Overall - 3.5/10 (below average) but 5/10 (average) taking price into consideration. Smoking time was about 50min I was pleasantly surprised how this cigar performed. Very basic, straight tobacco flavor with good construction sounds like a great yardgar for me, also the simplicity is welcomed vs a lot of NCs that add in a ton of pepper and earthy/dirt notes that I don't like. Add in a kicker that it was only 1 euro...if I lived in the Canary Islands I could see myself smoking these. They would completely replace cigarillos as I think most cigarillos have the same kinda taste except they're a PITA to smoke. 2
