Corylax18 Posted August 19, 2023 Posted August 19, 2023 Its a relatively small step, but it is a positive step. The office in Havana wont be able to process a tiny fraction of the 100,000s of thousands of migrants we've seen over the last few years, so its more symbolic than anything. But its better than nothing. With Cuba continuing to cozy up to Russia, I dont see them being removed from the state sponsor of terrorism list any time soon, but we can hope. https://havanatimes.org/news/usa-reopens-immigration-office-in-havana-cuba/ 2

That's the key. Many of us with a wish/need to visit the US, cannot risk visiting Cuba until they are removed from the list. 1

Unfortunately, I don't think those changes would revert as soon as Cuba is removed from the list. It's a necessary step, but both the EU and United states would need to separately rescind the changes they made to the visa program after Cuba is removed from the list. It shouldn't be this damn complicated. haha

Add my Irish passport to the list and Cuba is effectively a no go at the moment.
Drguano Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 You can visit the US after visiting Cuba since January 12, 2021, you just need to get a regular visa which was $185 US last I looked. January 12, 2021 was the day Cuba was added to the list of State Sponsored Terrorism. If you visited the island before that day, you can still enter the US on the cheaper ESTA visa.
