gustavehenne Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 I've tried a few of these so will write of what I've tasted: Ramon Allones Gigantes - my 'nemesis' cigar, when they aren't constructed like wooden pegs they are out of this world. I've had a run of bad luck with badly constructed ones. Juan Lopez Especial - I've hoarded these cigars as I love the JL marca and genuinely feel it's probably the most underrated cigar marca of the HSA portfolio. Exquisite. Opus X Reserva d'Chateau - glorious cigar although I'd take the Double Corona over it. Cinnamon, spices and that Opus twang. Gorgeous. (good luck trying to get it for the price suggested by CA) EP Carrillo Allegiance - the first one I had I thought was an outlier, it tasted brash, unbalanced and very confused flavours. The second one was equally as bad. Hard pass. AJ Fernandez New World Oscuro Double Corona. The few I've had have been very unbalanced and confused - not one I would recommend at all. The strongest cigar I've ever smoked was an AJ Fernandez albeit from the Bellas Artes range (Gordo vitola). I find AJF very hit or miss so tend to avoid. Tatuaje Reserva Broadleaf - was ok but badly constructed (disclaimer, I only tried one). I thought the Tatuaje Cojonu 2009 or 2012 Sumatra blows this out of the water for virtually the same price. Overall, a pretty disappointing and limited list. In my mind, they are missing (but clearly not an exhaustive list): Cuban larger vitolas (Upmann Sir Winston, Partagas Lusitania, Hoyo DC and RyJ Churchill) Cuban outliers (Montecristo A, Partagas Salamones, Cuaba Salamones, Monte Especial) NC Churchills/DCs (Padron 1926 No. 1 Maduro, Davidoff Anniversario Double R, Davidoff Royal Salmones, Illusione Epernay Le Matin) 4
MagicalBikeRide Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 I bought a sixer of that Opus back maybe ‘19 or ‘20. Smoked one straight away and have others down the bottom of my humidor. Nice prompt to go back in. Can’t recall exact notes but I do remember it as the best Opus I’ve had young. Hoping it will peak now with another couple on it.
