eggtimer Posted January 24, 2023 Posted January 24, 2023 First off: Thanks so much to this forum - the support and help received, the patience and friendship is wonderful! That why I am not afraid to ask a "depends" question that I am not satisfied I have figured out for myself yet. Despite much trial and error, I am not sure how long to "dry box" a cigar before they get too dry - what's your rule of thumb? I have a small humidor for about 10 cigars that I keep at <60% RH for cigars "at the ready". Any insights very much appreciated!
MrBirdman Posted January 24, 2023 Posted January 24, 2023 Entirely depends on taste. I wouldn’t leave a cigar out anywhere with very low humidity for more than a few days. As long as it’s above 50-55% at room temp you can keep them there as long as you want. The critical question is which humidity you prefer for smoking. I keep and smoke most Habanos at 65% and about 66F Dryboxing is more beneficial for young sticks. With older ones it can be counterproductive (and very old cigars, 15+ years, often smoke better at 69% in my experience) 4
