Popular Post Wailbait Posted January 3, 2023 Popular Post Posted January 3, 2023 I rarely have indulgent booze hangs with a cigar. Not because I am against indulgent booze hangs but because I sometimes feel like after half a cigar, I am not able to taste the subtleties of the spirit. But sometimes, a friend rolls over with fun bottles and it’s the new year…. My buddy said he was going to come by with some great bourbons and scotch. So I figured I would provide what has consistently been my favorite cigar of the last 5 years 2014 EML DIP 2. My constant notions on cigars from this period are that they have almost ZERO nose on preflight but they are rewarding after. Construction from 2013-15 has been excellent especially at La Corona. From ignition, this is just a commercial on how to do the Piramides form with subtlety. I love that it starts with tarry notes that get me a bit nervous. But it resolves quickly. The tar at light gives way to some earthy and leathery tones. I have had some fruity notes from Dip2 in the past but for some reason this one stays pretty in the leather/ cedar notes throughout. That being said, it was a fantastic stick. What I like about the Diplomatico blend overall is that it is very balanced. We had 5 or 6 whiskies and, honestly, I couldn’t think of a better cigar to pair. Happy new year to all! 10 1
