Popular Post Dr vonPuffenberg Posted December 30, 2022 Popular Post Posted December 30, 2022 After 2 NC reviews, I’m breaking out my fattest Cuban I picked up a box of these this spring in Santiago. It was April and the cigar shops were nearly empty. I had a friend who lives in Madrid stop by for a couple days and he helped me find a ‘Cava’ ( I think I’m spelling it correctly). Apparently these are the real cigar shops with large, walk-in humidors. Most cigars are sold at little Tobaco stalls in every neighborhood, and I happened to find a single at one. I smoked it that afternoon and found it to be a little fresh, but very tasty. Thanks to my buddy in Madrid, I had the previous 2 years’ Spanish regionals so I really wanted to find a box of these guys. Everywhere I went had no or nearly no Cohibas, Montes, etc. This cava (forget the name) had 2 of these Diplos on the shelf, so I asked the guy if he had any boxes. Luckily he had one left so I bought it for around 180 Euro. I’ve smoked one earlier this year and given one to my friend Mike. The first one was still a little fresh, but this guy is much better. It has a great draw and is burning perfectly through the first inch. There is a warm, nutty aroma coming from the foot. Flavor is a toasty cherry with some nice, medium strength Cuban backbone. This stick and my Manhattan are a great pairing. I really think that a properly prepared bourbon Manhattan is the best drink to have with a cigar. The flavor is warming into graham cracker and dry cardboard (?). I like these COH review weeks because they get me to smoke cigars that I might have been holding on to. This is the first Cuban Edmundo I’ve smoked, and I’m liking it. Cuban cigars have taught me to enjoy narrower cigars, so this is an interesting experience. In the rights hands, Cuban tobacco can be very enjoyable in this large vitola. She’s still burning nicely as I’m approaching the nub. A general warming and toasting of the flavors as the cigar progressed, I would say. A great smoking experience on this balmy 58 degree day. Happy New Year 11
