The phenomenon of a Cuban cigar that tastes like soap was mentioned on another thread. Instead of continuing the discussion there, I thought it was worthy of its own thread,

Since I began smoking Cuban cigars about 4 years ago, I have smoked perhaps 4 or 5 that tasted overwhelmingly of floral scented soap. At first I thought I must be having a sensory hallucination. Later I made a post on another cigar bulletin board about my experience and learned that it is not all that uncommon. I speculate that a roller had recently washed his/her hands or put lotion on them just before rolling the particular cigar.

Have any of you experienced this?

Van,

I have had it happen 2 or 3 times, most recently on a RyJ Pet Pir. I alwayed assumed it was something I had to eat or drink before.

It's definitely a weird phenom. when it does happen - I would rather have a plugged smoke than the soap smoke.

Yes, I experienced it with a plugged and soapy Monte D. :-(

It has happened to me once before, but I can't remember what exact cigar. I think both cigars were very young (under 1 year from box date)

This time I will visit the R&J factory bathrooms and confiscate some soap.

I will forward each of you a sample to review :-D

Never experienced this. Hope I never do.

As a side note, I did find a lonely hair sticking out of my Monte Edmundo on Saturday when I clipped it. On the head of the cigar too...fitting.
