Mhansen85 Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 So 2021 was the year that i discovered aged habanos. When i say aged i mean beyond the usual 3-5 years that i would be able to pick up from retailers or age myself until a suitable maturity was reached to bring it into a nice smoking window I was always hesitant to pay the Premiums for aged boxes. I did not believe it could be worth 2x the Price of a younger stick. The turn-around was a box of Dip 2’s from 2004 that i bought from Bond Roberts. The box was immaculate, the cigars pristine. A perfect looking box. The first one fro the box was like drinking an aged burgundy. Incredible smooth and velvety, with complex layered flavors in harmony. I have 11 left of the 25, all 14 has been incredible and consistent This morning i am smoking a RyJ PC from 2008. Bought a cardbord box of 15 8 months ago fairly cheap, atleast not with much Price Premium for the age. Down to the last 3 now. Just like wine, age does not turn a mediocre cigar into a stunning one, but it really shines a light on how much potential flavor evolvement is in cigars. Just like wine, it is not neccessarily a good thing for everybody. You may prefer the bite of the younger stick, the tannins of the younger red wine, but atleast it evolves. I like both The Ryj PC 2008 is pure smooth coffee Cream and pencil shavings. Hint of old leather as well. Retro still has a bite to it it with loads of white pepper and woody notes. A slight condensed milk and toffee note is there in the backend of the palate . Plenty of sweetness 2nd half we are purely in the pencil shavings and Cream territory. A soft almond note, not bitter comes towards the end. Body is under medium throughout I would rate it 89 points 3
