Popular Post bishop532 Posted December 25, 2021 Popular Post Posted December 25, 2021 For Christmas Eve, we went to my father in law’s house, and I decided to smoke a Monte 2. I have a PSP box headed my way from a couple weeks ago; while this one’s wrapper was likely not at that level, it was still a very enjoyable cigar smoked in good company. I gave my brother in law a BBF, my uncle got a VR Famoso, and my son an H Uppman Mag 46 - his first Habano. We stood on the back deck and smoked. The temperature was in the 50s last night. Not very Christmas-y weather I suppose but it was pretty comfortable at least. The wrapper was slightly oily and it had a nice cedar smell to go along with a milk chocolate wrapper. The cold draw was also cedar, as well as cocoa. It seemed well made, with just the slightest resistance on the draw. The first third was quality toasted tobacco mixed with baking chocolate, maybe chocolate chips. There was an earthy undertone as time went on. Second third saw the bakers chocolate transform into something closer to milk chocolate. There was a slight vanilla note, and the cedar from the cold draw made a strong showing. A touch of pepper on the retro, and some leather mixed in at various points. For the final third, most of the sweetness faded and leather and earth moved to the forefront. The retro was now strong pepper. Definitely a little youth still left in there, which I don’t mind sometimes. It showed a little strength before the end, finishing somewhere between medium and full. Haven’t had a Monte 2 in quite some time, so this was a nice reunion for me. I always like Montes around Christmas; the flavors just go well this time of year (I feel the same about SCDLH). Age hadn't yet smoothed out all the angst in this cigar, but it was smooth enough for my taste and I enjoyed the little bit of bite at the end. Considering how much everyone has been talking about the quality of recent Montes, after this I’m even more excited for that PSP box to arrive on my porch. Total Smoking Time: 1 hour 36 minutes Score: 93/100 11
RDB Posted December 25, 2021 Posted December 25, 2021 Nice looking cigar, I bet the rest of the box will be great in a few years’ time. Punchy starting your boy on a Mag 46! 1
bishop532 Posted December 26, 2021 Author Posted December 26, 2021 Thanks, this one was a single - the psp box is still en route. And yeah lol he didn’t finish that mag 46. I didn’t plan things very well; it was kind of a last-minute thing. But he did seem to enjoy it!
