Popular Post bishop532 Posted December 20, 2021 Popular Post Posted December 20, 2021 For this evening’s smoke, I chose a HdM Petit Robusto from 2016. I enjoyed it while watching The Beatles Anthology - Aug ‘64 to Aug ‘65, which I’ve been getting into since watching Get Back. The cigar had a lovely medium-dark wrapper and a delicious spicy smell off the foot. It reminded me almost of a (US-style) breakfast sausage. The cold draw was tasty but a bit muted compared to the smell, with oaky and toasty flavors. Upon lighting the cigar, I had a few puffs that were mostly earth, but this was quickly followed by a light, fruity note that I liked quite a bit and a slightly stronger chocolate flavor. The burn line was even and smoke production was decent. Around the transition into the second third, the cigar gave me a nice spicy note that reminded me of the smell from the foot. This spice is tasty but not at all overpowering. The chocolate was still there behind it, and so was a new red pepper flavor that really had an interesting feel to it. This red pepper was distinct from the other spicy note I mentioned, and they worked well with the chocolate flavor in my opinion. Unfortunately, at this point the burn line began to run a bit in one side. It wasn’t terrible, though, so I left it alone for the moment. The flavors were doing interesting things and it all still seemed to working just fine. The chocolate had started to fade and I began to pick up something much earthier coming to the front. The end of the cigar maintained the red pepper and added some lighter woody notes - cedar, I’d say. This is a good choice for a cold day. It’s quick but complex, and the spice warms you up a bit without ever being overwhelming. I think all things being equal I’d still choose an Epicure 1 or 2 if I had a taste for HdM, but on a day like this you could make a strong argument for the Petit Robusto. Total Smoking Time: 48 minutes Score: 90/100 11
