bishop532
I always like a good RASS during the holidays. Something about the fruity notes and the woody, smoky flavor tend to go well with the cold and the Christmas lights. They always get me in the spirit of the season. I had picked up a few that are about five years old, and I decided to give one a taste the other night. It was a nice-looking cigar. The wrapper had a nice oily sheen and I felt like it was a good color. It had a light sugared fruit scent. The cold draw was a weak but tasty oaky and dried fruit combination. The lit cigar had a pretty dry toasted tobacco flavor for much of the first third. There was a light woody component to it, and a touch of pepper on the retrohale. By the second third I was starting to get cottonmouth pretty bad. Not sure I’ve ever gotten it like this from tobacco. The taste was muted but enjoyable - it was starting to develop into nice raisin or date notes on top of a woody core - but the dryness was a bit off putting. I grabbed a water around this point, and that helped. The cigar blossomed at the end. The raisin flavor became much more pronounced and the dryness was much less noticeable. The pepper from the first third returned as a complementary background note. It all worked well together. This cigar was not one of the best examples of RASS that I’ve encountered. The final third was really pretty good, but the first two thirds suffered from muted flavors and that pronounced dryness. I imagine I didn’t give it enough time to acclimate to my humidor before smoking it. I could see the promise in it, but it wasn’t there just yet. 86/100 Smoking time: 1 hour 7 minutes
