Popular Post ChangBang Posted August 5, 2021 Popular Post Posted August 5, 2021 Have been looking for an opportunity to smoke a BCJ that I got in a trade and then this contest came up! I'm still looking for a short format cigar that I can smoke when time is limited. I thought the BPC was delicious and was on the fence between that and this to round out my rotation. Because it's a short format, like the past contest...I will be keeping an eye on time. Only received this cigar a week ago, so hoping construction isn't too affected but we'll see. Give it a straight cut and it's a little tight, I have my draw tool on standby if I feel it is needed while smoking. Give it a light and we're off! Time is 19:16 1/2 - One puff and flavors are already kickin! Get a leather and chocolate flavor off the bat. Little sweetness of molasses comes into play and the chocolate has changed to a bold coffee. It's hard to describe, but the remaining section has that rich earthy coke/root beer - like bolivar taste? It's a taste I instantly attribute to bolivar. Retro has a little kick but otherwise a smooth cigar. Somewhat battling the cigar getting smoke so give it a few pokes with the perfecdraw and it opens up a little. 2/2 - Little cream here and there appear in the beginning of the last half. As you can see the wrapper kind of exploded, but hasn't affect much except the burn line along the crack and the aesthetics. For the remaining half I get a leathery sweet cream note with that classic bolivar taste Ends at 20:36. So geez this lasted me a hour 20 min. Taking time to hit it with the draw tool and the tight draw, I can see why it took so long Only had to relight it a few times though. Way longer than I expected though - I have a few more that I can burn through before I reach my opinion. Flavor is there though! Overall I'll give this a 5/10 - Flavors were great in this cigar. Construction was mediocre due to me not resting it but oh well. Hope the rest don't take as long as a pyramide! 6
Zebra Posted August 8, 2021 Posted August 8, 2021 Good review! I have a fresh box from March 21 - I’ve smoked 3 already and really enjoy them. They’ve been perfect ROTT tbh. Another thing I’ve noticed and I don’t know if this is progress across the board or unique to Bolivar or even this box, but the glue on the bands it very user friendly. Comes off in one piece with no damage like pealing off a post-it note. I’ve never had this with Cuban cigars before. Ever.

These days a lot of my bands have been loose - I attribute it to putting them in a dry box for a week or two.
