Popular Post El Presidente Posted April 12, 2021 Popular Post Posted April 12, 2021 Nice to see some vid of the 20201 crop. In the province of Pinar del Río the land where Cuban tobacco is grown is recognized as one of the most famous fertile plains in the world. Yankiel García and his family alongside another dozen workers work at a nine-hectare farm (.0347 miles) in Pinar del Rio who, this season has planted some 38,000 seedlings and expects to deliver about 40,000 quintals of tobacco that will be taken to state factories. "This year has been a little hard," he said standing in his field of tobacco. Garcia has had to face a lack of diesel fuel to run his irrigation pump and an absence of abundant fertilizers and pesticides that the Cuban state offers them. This year almost everything on the island is in short supply but his crop assures that Cuba's cigar production continues. In 2020 and despite COVID-19, the Partagás factory, one of the most traditional in the hand rolling of famous Cuban cigars, produced 4.5 million cigars and hopes to increase that number to 4.7 million in 2021. "We are simply a little limited," said Bárbara María Hernández, the General Manager of the Partagás factory in Havana. The factory with its 500 employees did not close a single day and joined the other 34 state-owned workshops that throughout the country contribute to manufacturing the almost 100 million units annually that Cuba exports through the joint venture Habanos SA, a partnership created in 1994 between Cubatabaco and Altadis, a Spanish company owned by the English Imperial Tobacco Group PLC. 6 2
Enduin Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 "an absence of abundant fertilizers and pesticides that the Cuban state offers them" I thought that the farmers in Cuba did not have access to pesticides already, did I miss something?
