Popular Post TobaccoRoad Posted March 8, 2021 Popular Post Posted March 8, 2021 It was a gorgeous day yesterday so I decided to set up a lawn chair and a tray table in the back yard and review a long cigar for the second part of the "long and short of it" contest. I had decided on a RyJ Churchill but after my wife asked to join me I pulled a quick switch and grabbed one of the Oliva Serie O Churchills that she had given me for Christmas. It would obviously not have been my first choice of cigars but as a gift it beat the crap out of something practical. I'll take a box of NC's over socks or underwear or an ugly shirt any time. She wanted to try a CC for the first time so for her a San Cristobal de la Habana El Principe. Straight cut with a nice draw and a little hay and tobacco on the cold draw. The first third was bland. A little leathery with lingering pepper on the back of my tongue. I don't get a lot of flavor out of the puffs but the cigar is burning well and provides plenty of smoke. The second third was pretty much the same but the pepper went away. Even on the retrohale this cigar is just blah. A few touch-ups are required. No changes in the final third. My wife enjoyed the El Principe but prefers her flavored smokes. Which is absolutely cool with me. Conclusion: The cigar gets a charitable 6.5 out of 10. Definitely something I might grab if I were doing yard work or fishing. The lazy afternoon hanging out and smoking cigars with my wife gets a 10 though. 13
Fosgate Posted March 8, 2021 Posted March 8, 2021 Nice review and I've had a similar reaction to that cigar. I do like their Serie V though. Area rep comes to my local cigar club meeting this next Saturday. They always hand out a lot of sticks. Hoping to Score some more Serie V and Nubs. 1
clickbangdoh Posted March 8, 2021 Posted March 8, 2021 The old Bold O's with the blue cloth bands were something special, but the serie O that replaced them is not. Honestly not sure why the used the a similar "serie" name for a cigar line with no resemblance to the old Bold O's. I tend to stick to Serie V, especially the lanceros. 1
