Popular Post maverickdrinker
First ThirdBell pepper, white pepper, cedar, earth and leather come running out to welcome me. Strength is upper end of medium bodied. Whoa. Didn’t see that coming. The retrohale is muscular and robust. Time has now slowed this down at all. Eye opening as cedar, leather, earth, white pepper and bell pepper move assertively through the nasal passages. The after finish is striking. Heavy layers of cedar, earth, leather, white pepper and bell pepper hit hard however, eventually evolves to lavender, cinnamon and ginger, with a touch of sourdough bread. The flavours grip the palate aggressively. Velvet glove, iron fist. Will smoke this slowly to respect the flavours and the open draw. What a powerhouse to start. Second ThirdWow! This is a powerhouse. Strength continues to be at the upper end of medium bodied level. White pepper, lavender, Cuban mint, earth and leather move confidently through the nasal passages. The after finish has evolved. White pepper, lavender, Cuban mint, earth and leather form the front end. Cinnamon, ginger, sourdough bread and bell pepper complete the flavour profile. Still assertive on the palate. Gripping and vibrant. Forces you to smoke it slowly as the flavours linger forever. I’m in awe on how powerful this is, despite decades in slumber. Impressive. Final ThirdIronically, the strength level tapers off to a medium bodied level. Cuban mint, lavender, leather and earth, with touches of white pepper move more easily through the nasal passages. The after finish shows beautiful complexity and nuance. More elegant than the previous two thirds. The reduction of strength level opens up the bouquet. Cuban mint, lavender, leather and earth evolve to cinnamon, white pepper, ginger and sourdough bread, with touches of bell pepper. A beautiful ending. Final ImpressionsThis is one of those experiences that make you wish you had stockpiles of these cigars. The combination of power, flavour, complexity and nuance is mesmerizing, considering these are over 40 years old. Exquisite and humbling to enjoy.
