Ramón Allones No.2 EL 2019 MGL AGO 20 (MPRW)

My first cigar review and contest entry, so please be nice. Only started smoking CCs this year, so my tastebuds aren’t as refined as most reviewers here. But I’ll try my best!

Got this box off a local store, prepaid for the box and waited about a week for it to arrive. Has been sitting in my humidor for 2 weeks.

Initial impression: cigar had silky smooth slightly dark wrapping, light dusting of “plume”. Very well packed cigar. Had to snip the cap twice to get the perfect resistance in the draw. 

First third: Spicy (black pepper) at first but then settled down to a nice rich tobacco taste. The taste was more pepper than anything else. No hints of cream or sweetness. 
 

Second Third: Burn has been wonky with constant touch up required. Still lots of pepper and rich tobacco. No real change.

 

Final third: Smoking it too fast gave me a real sharp bitterness. But when I slowed down a bit, flavours were very pleasant. Sweet tobacco with some hints of dried fruits (think more along the lines of apricot). Again, if I puffed too fast this all turned to a nasty bitter taste. I needed two bitter reminders but the rest of the time was smooth sweet sailing. Nubbed it.

Overall Score: Solid 87/100 with tons of room to get better with age 
 

Side note: I smoked a young montecristo supremos EL 2019 a couple weeks ago from the same local store. That cigar, although young, was hands down one of the best cigar experiences I’ve had in my short cigar smoking career. If I rank the Monte supremos at a perfect 10 as is, this stick would be ranked a strong 7. I guess I’ll let these boxes sit for a rest and revisit In the spring.
