Popular Post Goodfortune Posted September 27, 2020 Popular Post Posted September 27, 2020 Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! Had a little time before I started the grill, so decided on a quick smoke. Paired it with a mineral water and a pour of Elijah Craig Small Batch. This is probably my 5th from the box, LGR JUN 2018. Not the prettiest of smokes, but other than a tight draw on a few, they have been enjoyable. Not too much going on with the cold draw, mainly some natural tobacco sweetness. This draw was better than some I have pulled from the box, but I still hit it with the PerfecDraw a couple times just to make sure I didn’t have any issues. Very nice opening with some roasted nuttiness, leather and wood. The ash wasn’t winning any competitions, but that is expected with a short/small ring gauge smoke. Lost some of that sweetness that the roasted nuts were bringing, mainly wood and some leather now. Stayed cool til the end and decided to call it around 45 minutes. All and all, a nice short smoke, nothing too complex and doesn’t require much focus. I do think I lean in favor of Partagas shorts over these, but I will keep these in my rotation. 88pts 8
GVan Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 I have 4 boxes of the same box code aging in the Humi. My son-in-law and I have tried 4 cigars from one of the LGR JUN-18 boxes and 3 of them already had that hint of molasses taste they are known for (1 was the same as you described above - still good - just not the molasses and pancakes you hope for when you picked it). Actually, the examples from the JUN-18 box had a little more typical molasses than the cigars from the LGR NOV-17 box that I am currently smoking through. In the NOV-17 box - some are awesome and some are just ok. For me it's a toss-up between the Parti-Short and the Principi in the morning with coffee. Two totally different taste profiles and as I look into the humi it's always do I want sweetness or do I want sourdough this morning? Either seems a great choice for a morning smoke with coffee! 2
