Montecristo No.2 MEG SEP 15 (PRW)

I got this box a few years ago and it was one of my first cuban purchases. It’s one of the most iconic cigars in this game so I figured why not spend a little more for a box. Fast forward a few years later, I have a little less than half the box remaining. Almost all sticks have been below average in flavor and construction. I will say that they are becoming slowly better with age. I don’t have a strong desire to dip into this box often, so a review is a good enough reason as any. 

 

I clipped the cap with a straight cut. The cold draw was surprisingly pleasant. The most standout flavor I got was raisins. 

 

First third: the cigar starts off with mostly leather, wood, and earth. Every so often a sweet note pops in. Sometimes it’s chocolate, and sometimes it’s cream. Good start. 

 

Second third: the earthiness and leather dissipate, and the wood becomes more prominent. The wood was a sweet cedar flavor. The cream becomes stronger but less sweet. The best part about the cigar isn’t so much the flavor, but the aroma. I’ve actually never experienced such a pleasant aroma outdoors. 

 

Final third: the sweetness is almost all but gone. The earthiness picks back up with more wood and leather. No pepper, but a little bitterness. It’s still possible this cigar needs more time to mature. 

 

Overall this cigar was probably the best out of the box so far. Not amazing by any counts but very smokable. I envy the newer reviews on the monte 2s as I’ve yet to have a chocolate bomb with one of these. I have little desire to dip back into this box soon, but I look forward to it’s progression. 89/100.
