Popular Post maverickdrinker Posted September 13, 2020 Popular Post Posted September 13, 2020 The wrapper lightly leathered, honeyed chestnut hue. Fairly smooth to the touch. Decent construction. A little too spongy for my liking, with a slight soft spot in the middle. Hopefully, it won’t lead to any draw issues. The tapered triple cap is well applied and the foot is packed. Aromas of barnyard, bell pepper, earth and leather, with touches of cream and cocoa emanate from the wrapper. A quick snap from my Palio cutter and we are ready to roll. The draw is loose. Air flow is more open than I like. Will have to smoke this slowly to control the burn. Leather, earth, bell pepper, cocoa and touches of cream come from the cold draw. First ThirdWhite pepper, bell pepper, expresso, star anise and light cinnamon start is on our journey. Strength is at the upper end of medium bodied. Impressive, considering the age. The retrohale is fairly powerful. Black pepper, expresso, star anise and light cinnamon move robustly through the nasal passages. The after finish is lush and vibrant. White pepper, expresso, star anise, earth and light cinnamon evolve to oolong tea, bell pepper, leather, light cedar and sourdough bread. Very expansive on the palate. Hits hard in the initial draw but smoothes out nicely. Good balance between flavours and strength. A heavy flavour profile on the palate. Will smoke this slowly to let the palate recover between draws. Second ThirdCinnamon, black pepper, star anise and expresso move assertively through the nasal passages. The after finish is settling in. Strength has reduced to a medium bodied level. Black pepper, cinnamon, star anise, leather and expresso still lead the way however, cedar, oolong tea, earth and bell pepper have been amplified at the back end. Richer and more complete with the amplification. Still strong on the palate however, more enjoyable at this stage. Final ThirdSome of the flavours reverse their roles in the final third. Cedar, white pepper, earth, leather and star anise are profiled in the retrohale. More complex as it moves through the nasal passages. The after finish also sees this turn of events. Cedar, white pepper, earth, leather and star anise lead the way, followed by light cinnamon, oolong tea and bell pepper and a faint hint of a floral note at the tail end. More intricate and vibrant on the palate. Strength stays at a medium bodied level. An interesting and unexpected finish to the journey. Final Impressions A muscular flavour profile, supported by a powerful strength level backbone. Excellent tobacco quality. Construction is a little spongy but, didn’t take away from the experience. Has the pedigree to continue to age gracefully and evolve. Curious to see if the floral notes take a pronounced stance in the future. Still rough around the edges but shows promise that this will end up to be brilliant. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 9
