There is a touch of a Monty Python sketch to all of this :D

Skinny cows in Pinar del Río do not comply with meat production

Food shortages in Cuba also affect cows and pigs. In Pinar del Río, the low weight has saved many cattle from passing through the slaughterhouse and, incidentally, has left breaches in the beef production plan that the livestock sector in the province brings to the country, according to the local newspaper. guerilla .

To solve this problem, the main strategy deployed by the Ministry of Agriculture in the territory is not to increase food imports to supply farms, but to raise strong animals that reproduce quickly and eat little, such as, for example, rabbits.

The sheep breeding centers of Guane and Palacios are currently focusing on achieving stronger species, although the newspaper does not clarify whether when it talks about strength, it refers to more resistant to the food deficit.

But the food shortage also forces to bet on aquaculture. In fact, nearly 30 million larvae of different species have been introduced into the "water bodies" of the province, but the official newspaper does not specify which ones.

Mario Gómez Marrero, deputy delegate of Livestock in Pinar del Río, explained that the shortage of food has led him to mark as a priority the task of "involving" farmers to join in the breeding of animals with little appetite and great agility reproductive.

In Pinar del Río there are currently 120 goat breeders and another 140, of dark-coated pigs in the basic cooperative production unit El Rosario, in the municipality of Viñales. Thus, they bet on a species that consumes little.

These are Creole pigs, which do not produce much meat, but which also do not oblige the Government to import feed and medicine, as they feed on palm, cassava, corn, banana leaves and rice waste.

The official from the Ministry of Agriculture admits that "until now, the production of pork has been very limited due to the deficit in animal feed."

Overcompliance?

On the other hand, the Guerrillero newspaper assures that the production of eggs goes on wheels in the province and supports this statement by talking about overcompliance with 111% and obtaining 142 million units, but without specifying whether these figures satisfy the demand in the territory . They only advance that they plan to keep these data, which they consider positive, for the remainder of the year.

Regarding milk production, they only highlight that more than 6 million liters have already been delivered to 74 collection points and with proven quality, they emphasize. Nor do they clarify whether this is enough to satisfy the population's supply.

Meat and bones with different destinations

The Cuban Government allocates beef production to hotels and sells the bones and by-products with which hamburgers are made to the population .

An official from the Ministry of Agriculture has linked the shortage of pig food with the slowdown in the arrival of tourists to the Island and the impossibility of obtaining the organic raw material with which liquid feed is made.
