Popular Post Chucko8 Posted April 14, 2020 Popular Post Posted April 14, 2020 Have been starry eyed at this single stick in the desktop humidor for some time now. Nice RG of 52 the wrapper has definite signs of veins and bumps though pleasingly a light oil still present given some aging. The colour is a darker chocolate than that see on the regular piramide extras in my collection and keeps in theme with that present on the LE's in general with a more maduro like look. A light squeeze along the length of the cigars gives me some nice feedback with no soft or spongy spots evident. Smell of the wrapper is cedar and old leather, on the foot i detect a little spice. I cut it with a double bladed Palio cutter and obtain a nice clean straight cut. The predraw is great with a light resistance from which I obtain cedar and that spice found on the foot smell. Torch it up nice an slowly and get this stick underway. Straight away I'm meet with some dark chocolate, coffee and smooth cedar. Cracking start! The 1st third remained in this same vein with some flickers of citrus creeping in. I decided that this stick should be paired with nice rum and sipped along happily with the Bundaberg Solera. This is definitely a richer in flavours then the normal Cohiba DNA. Burn is great with line staying sharpish, ash has a nice light grey hue and the smoke content is very pleasing. I have to slow myself down as was also happily chatting on the virtual herf and having a ball. Retrohale is smooth and expands on these chocolate and coffee profiles. 2nd third commences, chocolate with espresso and some white pepper coming into play. As I progress further that white pepper develops more into a chilli spice feel. Reminds me of a chocolate coated coffee bean which the chocolate has had some chilli infused. Delicous!.All the while the mouth has this super smooth creamy finish in it. Yeah this is a great afternoon. Final third and I change it up on the gears and add another favourite drink into the pairing session. This beer has spent a little time inside a mount gay rum cask for the finishing touches. Bloody fantastic and i feel that it sidles up perfectly with this amazing cigar. This really is a complex cigar and that spiced espresso lingers but low and behold I start to obtain with that creamy finish the cohiba grassiness and some honey offerings. This is seriously one divine stick and has some much to give. There was no way that I couldn't take this one down to the nub. It would be like a kid saying no thanks Easter Bunny keep your chocolate feast on Sunday I'm not interested! Not going to happen. Plus there was more left in the bottle of rum and another can in the fridge. It just was pure class and remained cool right to the end, apart from where burned a finger tip trying to hold the nub whilst drawing the last out of it I could at just a tick under 2 hours. What a great afternoon! Give this stick a 97/100. 22

dt2 Posted April 15, 2020 Posted April 15, 2020 Really wonderful review!! Quite a pleasure to have an original LE. Thoughts on how this compares to the regular production Piramides you’ve had? Also, your choices for drink pairings are really speaking to me. Thanks for the info on these two, I see research in my future... ? ? 1
X-Man Posted April 15, 2020 Posted April 15, 2020 Awesome experience. I just mentioned in Rob’s thread about the most influential cigar since 2000. I thought it was the original EL 2001 Cohiba Piramides. Thanks for sharing. 1
