BlueRidgeFly Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 Another stick from LCDH Amsterdam last year, recommended by one of the guys working there. I did not get the box code. He said don't smoke them for a year or two. It's been eight months -- I've never had a Vigia and I'm curious. Not a dark wrapper, green spot on the edge of the cap. Funky size. Missing my usual scotch, mezcal, or dark beer accompaniment, just some pre-dinner cool water. Stream of smoke and consciousness, starting at... 1630 Wow... right off the bat, it's coffee, a vegetal note in there, almost a chestnut? A lot of complexity and flavors I can't really pull apart into words. Very smooth. There is a slightly bitter note (kinda weird), maybe on my lips from the cap? Good draw, even burn. 1645 Hmmm, don't think that bitterness is from the wrapper, but it's going away. Dark roast coffee, dark toasted plain bread, a walnut note if I stoke it with a couple deep puffs. 1657 Almost half of its short length burned. Stronger coffee plus a little sweetness. Ash drops, touch up for some minor canoeing. 1707 Rich, smooth, some short, quick puffs tame it quite a bit. More sweetness and complexity too. I'm generally a pretty slow smoker, so not like I was racing through it before, but cooling it down seems to improve things. This thing is odd, but in a good way. Has a nice finish. Predominantly sweetened coffee here, and I can't describe what else but more is there blended with it. 1715 Even richer, stronger, dark coffee, chocolate cake, plus a savory flavor. It's a cannon of dark notes, complexity has diminished. Feeling a little nicotine. 1725 One inch left. Tossing it now would be pitching like twenty percent of it. A nutty flavor appears here and there with the coffee and cake... coffee cake, yeah. 1736 Done. An 88/100, but there were moments it rose way above that. My inclination is to not try the other Vigia for months more at least. I was thinking of looking out for a box of these, but at the price and some of the oddness in this one, I'll wait. 4
