HU Connie 1 BRE OCT18(HURW)

G’day to ya mates.  I was originally going to review a different Upmann, the Connie A from LUB15. I must have deleted the pixels. Well, in any event, nobody puts Connie 1 in a corner. 

 

The marque: HU Connoisseur 1

 

Opening remarks:  This is the second I’ve pulled from the BRE OCT18 Box, & it has been 2 months since the first.  That first one spoke to me inside the first 1/3...oh the twang.  Then left me like a one night stand.  This second one here looks great, feels superb, & smells better than the first due to more rest.  Oh what a blue bird day that feels more like Spring than Winter. ? I’m typically a V-cut man, but I’ve been using a punch more & more on 48Rg & less. Let’s ? it up & have some more good times.

 

1/3:  This was dry boxed for 3 days.  From the get go, we had all the players show up.  Sweet cake, toastiness, light woody notes, some light coffee, but no Twang.  How could this be?  I will say, this cake had a lot of icing on it.  One of the sweeter C1s I’ve ever had.  

 

2/3: As we get into the heart of her, everything has been spot on...the draw, the burn, & flavor hasn’t wavered.  Ha! That rhymed. I was a singer/song writer in my earlier days.  A Connie 1 is like kicking back in a hammock.  It’s on cruise control from start to finish.  No bumps.  No bold rollercoaster rides.  Just a nice, easy breezy Sunday morning.  Just under medium.  The hyped up sweetness has simmered some, & in a good way.  More balance is always a good thing.

 

3/3&Final Thoughts:  These smoke so well young.  However, with over a year on this box, I was looking for some Twang & it struck out.  Still I don’t want to be too hard on this one.  This is a solid 90.  Hopefully, as we move deeper into the box, our twang thirst will be quenched & the score will climb. Remember, nobody puts Connie 1 in a corner.
