Popular Post slowsmoke Posted October 12, 2019 Popular Post Posted October 12, 2019 I tend to forget I have several of these in my singles drawer, from a box split a while ago. The few I’ve had were ok, nothing special. This one today was something special for sure. Wonderful cold aroma, sweet honey, touch of citrus or lemon peel, faint nutty leather. The draw was snug draw but serviceable. Tasted of a faint bready nutmeg ginger thing, like a dry cookie. First puffs are wet leather, and it quickly develops some sweetness. In the first third, some vegetal and dry grass, with a sweetness bordering on honey, and I’m thinking this is an awful lot like a good Cohiba. Excellent twangy finish. The retro is a little pungent citrus, but very enjoyable. This thing is off to a great start. Halfway, I’m thinking wow this cigar is remarkably well behaved, slow and even burn, perfect Goldilocks smoke production. When I finally knocked off the ash there is some tunneling that requires a minor touch up. Now there is a mild woody base, still some sweet grass and honey, a subtle cream. It is amazing how many enjoyable flavors there are in this, a very mild cigar. I’d call it barely over light bodied. Nearing the final third, I ash again and it needs another touch up for some tunneling. The draw has opened up and it’s feeling a bit squishy, maybe a little underfilled now. The sweetness is waning, getting a little dark and funky, but still very good. Flavors are awesome wet Cuban tobacco, a little tannic and bitter, but great, solid medium body, retro is now a bit of a kick in the nose. Finally put it down because it’s tunneling worse and I’m overheating it to keep it going. Overall, I’m going to rate this cigar Excellent, even with the burn issues at the end. It’s pretty much everything I could want in a Saturday morning smoke. By the time I put it down, I was throughly satisfied, a solid 70 mins and it could have gone longer. 5
