Popular Post havanaclub
Decided to try a QD54 from a new 10ct box I picked up in Cuba. I have had one from a PSP box of 25, but wanted to try one with a slightly lighter wrapper with less oil and let the 25ct PSP box age. I paired this with Old Forester 1920 bourbon. This sample had a tight firm pack, so I used a V cut, the draw was excellent. Cold draw cedar, sweetness. 1st: what a start to this cigar. Very sweet tobacco, sweet cedar and very bready... brioche as Pres noted in his review with Ken. I get what he means. Perfect burn and construction. 2nd: started to get pepper on the retro, probably due to its youth. The sweetness faded which was a bit of a let down, (maybe it was the 115 proof bourbon that killed my tastebuds?) but started to pick up some woody notes. 3rd: cream, bread and more pepper. Towards the end it started to get a little bitter. Was very happy with the performance of the cigar, perfect draw and burn line. I chalk the final third down to youth. I did dry box this sample from a 62rH humidor to a travel humidor with no humidification for one week. The pairing with the bourbon might have affected the second half of the cigar, I am not sure. I think this would have been better with a coffee. I will have to try again soon. Rated pairing 89. Cigar 1st third was in around 94 imo. Cheers Foh. JLinz
Very nice review! I would guess it was more the youth than the bourbon. I suspect these will be great in a few. Good thinking setting aside the 25ct box. Would love to get my hands on one of those as so far I have only been able to pick up the 10ct.
