Popular Post jmg Posted March 15, 2019 Popular Post Posted March 15, 2019 I dont reach for monte often. I probably smoke one every 2 months or so, if that. I dont know what it is, but the chocolate profile juzt doesnt do a whole lot for me. To be fair, the good ones are worth smoking, but on any given weekend, Id rather go for something else. Havent smoked one in about 3 months and this weekend review is as good a time as any to revisit the marca. Vcut to open it up, toast it and let's go. 1st third opens up with some cocoa powder, with a citrus note. im getting a LOT of citrus from my cigars lately. not a LOT per cigar but rather citris notes from every cigar I smoke. Must be something in my body chemistry. Not that I mind, but more of a personal observation. 1st third continues with some back ended notes of wood accompanied with an undercurrent of very light chocolate cream. 2nd third opens up with some milk chocolate. Overall, the smoke is dry and thus has been my experience with this particular box. The Oban is pairing unexpectedly well with it. The slight peat and fruity flavors im getting, play well with the choc notes. Fruit tart with milk chocolate flakes sprinkled on top. Last third and very light coffee joins the foray. The choc notes are mostly gone but the tartness is still there, although that could be more due to the Oban. Tobacco notes come through to a predictable end. Overall, a good smoke, but not great. 85 for the cigar and 92 for the drink. The 85 is more due to personal preference and perhaps the Oban overpowered the smoke a bit. Still have about 15 left of these so I'll see how they continue to age. Enjoy your weekend everyone. Sent from my SM-G955N using Tapatalk 7
shippers Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 Nice review not had too many montes myself. Great choice of whisky! Depending on the cigar I either like a sherry bomb such as Glendronach 18 or something smokier like a Bruichladdich Port Charlotte. 1
Stump89 Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 Nice review! Oban was the first single malt I ever paired with a cigar and it was a great experience, though I have not had it recently. 1
