Maverick Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Any FOH Brisbane Members (or ROB) planning anything for Superbowl? It just occured to me that it is fast approaching and I have been told by my wife that I can't drink beer in the morning unless there is someone else drinking with me. It is Monday 6 Feb, I think kick off is around 8am, but not too sure. Not sure who is covering it on TV, I am sure Foxtel and SBS will be giving it a go. It is the only time of the year that I am not guilty drinking beer at that time in the morning. Ross...
Ken Gargett Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 tragically it is the first morning of judging at the sydney show. i have made tentative feelers to halliday, the chairman, who is a known sports fanatic but it seems that as a first time associate, it may be frowned on. can not believe it. no doubt the first one i have missed in decades will be the first time in decades the skins get up (actually, i suspect there is much doubt on that). last one i missed was, inevitably, the great thrashing of denver - 5 touchdown passes in the 2nd 1/4 i think - when i was stuck in the middle of the cameroons jungle. finally found a couple of us marines there to guard the embassy who gave me the score about two weeks late but i didn't believe until i got back.
genevapics Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Did you live in the Washington, D.C. area at some point in time? I am curious as to how you became a 'Skins fan. Not that you had to live there to be a 'Skins fan, but you seem to have a passion for the 'Hogs. Just curious.
guilow Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 » the first one i have missed in decades will » be the first time in decades the skins get up Now THAT is a funny statement.
Ken Gargett Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 arrived day before bush snr elected and worked there for a year or so, in a law firm called shaw pittman potts and trowbridge. on m street from memory. was a great intro - i was picked up by friends from the airport (had never been to the states before) and taken straight to a bar in georgetown to watch the skins win one. if i remember, mike ditka had just had a heart attack and the papers were full of it. also, i think that there was outrage as someone had spat in the face of one of the skins. what goes around... loved it (and sppt one of the best firms i ever worked for). lived at vacation lane arlington. so was there for rypien's year. before that i was just a fan of the game. when i lived in london at a place called london house, one of my best mate's - doing the endless phd - also ran the bar. he was a fanatic broncos fan and the local tv was showing quite a bit of the game back in the mid/late 80s so i picked it up and still love it. so the skins broncos bowl, even tho i was stuck in the jungle, was before i was a skins fan, just a game fan.
