Montecristo 2, DIC 17 SSR

This is my first substantive post and review. This Monte 2 came from a trip to Canada and I’ve been holding it back for something special, such as this review!

The cigar has a huge aroma cold, and smells of barnyard, leather and classic Cuban tobacco. This was one of the most aromatic cigars cold that I’ve had the chance to have. The construction is quite nice, and there is some good oil on the wrapper. It’s quite a pretty cigar, imo. 

I bought a new Xikar V cuter, and I’ve not had the chance to use it on a perfecto yet, so here goes. The draw cold had a classic Monte 2 profile, and was a bit restricted as expected for where this cut was. Draw was on the tight side of good, as a result of the cut, not the construction. 

Starting out the flavor was there immediately, strong earth notes, leather, spice and nuttiness. This cigar was loaded with great flavor and smelled great. The burn was pretty even, and did not require any touch ups until the end. 

Coming into the middle section, and those flavors just went up a notch. The pre was now some coffee in the mix, but there was a softness to it, like drinking a creamy Cortado. The leather and earth was the predominant flavor. The burn was still great. With the condensation starting to build the draw was tightening up a bit. I decided to get the guillotine out to cut it as I would normally do for a perfecto. This opened the draw right up, and smoke production was back. 

The last third was a mix of deeper coffee and leather flavors. Went from a medium to a fuller bodied cigar. Spice was in play with the big leather notes. There was not really any harshness or off flavors to speak of for a cigar less than a year old. I decided to smoke this down to the nub, and it kept on producing all the way through.

My collection of Monte 2s is tiny, so this was a real treat for me. Thanks for reading!

Nice review. Been a while since I had one but I still remember the flavors as it was yesterday. Outstanding smoke Coco,spice, leather and a tad of citrus.
