Popular Post Islandboy Posted September 23, 2018 Popular Post Posted September 23, 2018 I picked up a few of these recently while visiting relatives in Calgary. I didn’t note down the box code, but these were apparently a 2011 release, so there’s a bit of time on them. This was a fairly firm cigar, but with labels that easily slid off. Cold draw was a bit firm but well within reason. Burn was near perfection throughout. Smoke output was a bit thin in the first third, but immediately brought on the classic caramel and honey flavors PL is known for. After the first inch or so, smoke output and draw were spot on. Honestly, I’m not one to accurately pick out each flavor. I just know when I’m in the midst of something that is well balanced and nuanced. This certainly is. Everything is in sync. There’s an overriding caramel, honey and hay spine. There’s a touch of white pepper on the retrohale that plays nicely with the base. There’s a bit of salt that compliments the fine cocoa and slight fruitiness. Just the right amount of fresh cedar spice can be detected. Everything comes together brilliantly in symphony. In the final third, the caramel and honey ramp up in sweetness to resemble marzipan. At the same time, the flavor build-up brings on a pleasant citrus component - but not bitter at all. Overall, this was a treat, and the perfect balance of flavors was the main feature. A solid 93 in my books. 6 1
