Popular Post MrGlass Posted June 23, 2018 Popular Post Posted June 23, 2018 The La Gloria Cubana Medaille d'Or No.4 is a cigar that, to my knowledge, basically exists to hold a trademark. With the rest of the line discontinued, or just nonexistent in the case of the No.2, this is a cigar easily overlooked. The size and shape is completely at odds with current trends, and it's at the more expensive end of the cheap and cheerful spectrum – it really doesn't have a lot jumping out for it. Sometime in the last 18 months, I picked up a quarter box of these just to try for the sake of it. And these cigars absolutely blew me away. I couldn't believe how much flavour and personality they were able to squeeze into these tiny little sticks, and I knew from the first one that it would not be my last. Since then, these cigars have been a regular for me and not one has let me down so far. This is definitely a cigar that is batting well above its league. I took some of these to a Christmas party last year and they took everyone by surprise. For this review, I grabbed one and headed out for a stroll late in the evening. It opened with chocolate sultanas before moving over to fruitcake with just a slight cocoa dusting. Through the middle third, the fruitcake remained while the cocoa faded away. Going into the final third, a spiciness paired with that glorious fruit sweetness through to the end. Despite its size, the smoke time was around an hour and I was sad to see it finish. These unassuming little sticks still continue to amaze me, and all this review has reminded is that I need to pick up a lot more of them for the future. They have been, without a doubt, my most valuable cigar to date in 2018. 4 1
Derboesekoenig Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 Thanks for the review! I will definitely be on the lookout for any reg production LGC when in Cuba. I have only tried their ERs thus far, and those were my favorites of 2018 so far.
