Hard cigar cherry

Recommended Posts

Hey guys lately when I smoke from my stash my cigars cherry is carbonizing and turning really hard. The draw becomes almost impossible and I have to cut it and relight. Is this from my sticks being overhumidfied? I'm smoking them slowly as well to make sure it's not me getting them too hot. Any insight would be appreciated!

I'm curious as to what others say because I've had this happen to me too. Normally I just pinch the cigar and crack open the tight spot and it opens back up.

Ultimately it’s too much moisture

I’ve rolled more than a thousand cigars now and I can replicate the hard cherry

Smoking in a humid environment, the cigar is too damp inside, smoking too fast.

It’s always an issue of moisture from one or more reasons.

It’s pretty difficult to do with a Cuban because they are generally rolled too tightly, however, if it’s loose enough you can microwave the stick (cap cut) for 8 seconds and blow the steam out of it. But, I doubt that’s possible with most Cubans.

The heated moisture will cause the leaf to expand such that you may not be able to get air and the resultant steam to blow through it.

:surprised:   I've never had a hard cherry   and btw, that sounds wrong on sooooo many levels! :P   How can ash harden without some sort of resin in it?  I can't imagine the chemistry that water alone could provide.

It’s not just water. There are tars, oils and tobacco, ant other things reacting there. Moisture is the catalyst
