I once bid several thousands of dollars on a used black leather jacket ...

... which happened to have been the one Patrick Swayze wore in Dirty Dancing which is my wife’s favorite movie. It was to be her birthday present. Had I won it, I guarantee you she would take down our wedding pictures to make room on the wall to hang it.

That’s all to say, I wouldn’t spent $100 on it for myself but I would have gladly spent several thousands to see how happy it would have made her.

Value is what someone is willing to spend. If someone loves Fidel Castro like my wife loves Patrick Swayze, they probably didn’t blink at $27,000 and are smoking one right now thinking how lucky they are to have won it.
