12 DOC Cohiba Esplendido – MEL JUN 16

I tomorrow is my last day of college. I already have a job lined up, and just signed a lease for our new rental house. The esplendido seemed like the best choice for celebrating today.

 

I was worried about getting a plugged cigar, the lancero was a huge let down. This one was perfect! Initial lighting is the cohiba grassy flavor. This quickly evolved into a sweet honey and cream flavor.

 

As the cigar progressed through the first and second thirds, it was a mystery at each puff. The sweet honey, grassy hay, and shortbread/Graham cracker flavors would surprise me with each puff. Amazing journey!

 

The last third had some bite to it. Left almost a stinging sensation in my mouth. I did some purging and it would reside but quickly return.

 

Overall, I wish I could smoke these daily. The complexity was amazing. The construction, draw, and burn were impeccable. My only regret is the sampler only contained one!

I believe most would agree younger cigars do not travel well through the final third. The rough edges generally wear off a couple or more years in...

Congratulations on your graduation! Glad you had better luck with the Espy. I’m trying to save mine for my birthday at the end of the year...not sure I’ll be able to hold out that long.

I was thinking the youthful bite was the case, and it very well may be the culprit. Other reviews of Tre same stick had that in the final 3rd too. However, the espy I smoked earlier from the 3 packs that came up recently, had no bitterness at all in the last 3rd. Are some sticks just good regardless of youth?
