Hi Guys & Gals,

I read a lot about the young mongrel flavor or a mongrel cigar, but really don't know what it is. I have also noticed that it is often referred to in a charitable way and then other times the word is certainly pejorative. Someone please learn me the ways of the CC masters.

I think it's a Robism. I associate it with youthful spice and bite. Like someone will refer to a well-aged cigar with no rough edges. Mongrel is the rough edges. My own 2 cents based on what I taste in cigars he describes it in.

Pretty much
Kinda the same as the slight alcoholic burn you get when drinking certain aged spirits (not cheap/young spirits)
You know how people often associate "smooth" with good?
Well "mongrel" is like associating "a little rough" with good

@Danimalia Thanks, I was figuring it was that harshness/bitterness that you get sometimes but just wasn't sure. But it makes sense how it can be sometimes good and sometimes bad.

It's not just harsh, but rather a wealth of strong, incompletely melded flavors that are so seductive, you enjoy them despite the harsh bite nipping at your heels.  Such a cigar will likely age to better harmony and nuance, but they're so tasty and intriguing now that you can't keep your hands off them. :cigar:

Sounds like your describing my wife and why I got married, hopefully she with mellows with age too. ??

Not likely.?

@Bsonwine thanks for crushing my dreams lol.  Well, at least I have some great CC I can look forward to

Truth be told I’m definitely much more of a pain in the a$$ to deal with. She’s a saint for putting up with a deviant such as myself.

in terms of alcohol - mongrel = moonshine = fire water

in terms of cigars - as mentioned already - fresh PLPC, 898V

It has lots of power and is not quite together in flavours but amongst it all, you see potential.

At times, AFTER LOTS OF ALCOHOL, I have used the term to describe Fuzz (in terms of endearment) B)

And always when out of arms reach. <_< Next time I'll have something heavy to throw at you.

An angry cigar, has good parents but it's in its teenage rebellion years, shows raw versions of its future that will become refined if you come back in 5+ years when it's settled down a bit.

But those raw unrefined flavours are thoroughly enjoyable as someone's you don't want subtle and delicate; sometimes you want uncomplicated and straight to the point
